When designing, it is essential to consider the environment in which to insert the space you want to use as a garden: the plant types are very varied and must adapt to the landscape, whether in the countryside for example, or in the city.
It is therefore advisable to observe the elements that create the landscape: the typical materials, the autochthonous vegetation, the course of the land, the external furnishings, the colors of the house and of the other houses, the nearby gardens. Also important is the budget that is available but it must be remembered that it is possible to create a very pretty garden even with little money.
If the landscape has some element that deserves to be enhanced - the view of the lake or the sea but also an important plant or group of trees - then the garden will be organized in such a way as to direct the gaze in that direction. But a garden can become interesting even if it is located in a city where particular architectural elements sometimes stand out: the glimpse of a bell tower or an ancient palace. And it is not difficult, with a little imagination, to create a harmonious whole, perhaps inventing a fence made of native species, which ideally connects the garden with what is outside.
Sometimes, however, the problem can be the opposite. To hide something outside that does not particularly cheer up the view - a dilapidated building for example -, it is necessary to draw attention to the interior of the garden: a strategically placed bush, a fountain, a flower bed.
But let's go in order.
Analyze the space available
First of all it is good to have an idea of the area you have, especially in terms of size. It is therefore necessary to measure the terrain to better adapt the project. If the area is not too large, it is advisable to leave shrubs and bushes on the perimeter and in the center, instead, leave the field free to the grass. If, on the other hand, you have a beautiful country garden, therefore larger, it can become difficult to maintain and take care of it at best but with a series of strategies, it will not be so difficult. It will be useful, for example, to delimit a series of spaces thanks to borders, small hedges or more simply vases.
